Loma demonstrates that meaningful collaboration knows no borders, bridging the Pacific to reimagine a standard suburban site.
Challenging the initial proposal to demolish the entire property, the design instead celebrates the existing fabric. The original front cottage was retained and repurposed as a 'gatehouse'—a flexible threshold containing a garage, study, and indoor/outdoor BBQ zone.
This preservation buffers the street, creating a protected sanctuary for the new two-storey residence situated at the rear. Large windows dissolve the boundaries between these two volumes, focusing attention onto a shared, lush garden that sits between the old and the new.
Born from a remote partnership with tech-savvy clients and a dedicated local builder, the project proves that distance is no barrier to crafting a tactile, deeply personal home.
